Save Big on Ammo
Ammunition represents the largest ongoing cost to regularly practicing with your firearms and enjoying shooting sports. Fortunately, there are ways to save big by buying bulk ammo online. Not only is it cheaper, but for residents of most states, it will be delivered right to your door.
Why Buy in Bulk Online
Many gun owners fall into the trap of buying relatively small quantities of ammo at their local gun range.
Once you're in the door, it's a safe assumption that most gun range visitors need ammo to practice with and maybe some additional rounds to add to their stockpile at home.
In general, gun ranges take advantage of this and mark up the price of their ammo since your purchase is almost predetermined the moment you walk in the door.
Instead of just paying whatever price your local range is charging, you can usually save a lot of money by buying in bulk online and bringing that ammo to the range with you.
Online retailers, like Lucky Gunner, can easily sell millions of rounds of ammo to customers each month. Because they deal in such large quantities, they can usually offer the lowest margins on the products they sell. In other words, you'll typcally save a lot of money by buying in bulk from an online retailer.
Even those who don't shoot that often can benefit, as ammo can last a very long time when stored properly.
Best Places to Buy Cheap Ammo Online
It's not just Lucky Gunner that has excellent deals; there are multiple great places to buy cheap ammo online. Below I've covered some of our favorite, most trusted options. I'd recommend comparing prices among sites if looking to find the best deal.
Lucky Gunner
Lucky Gunner is our favorite option that primarily sells bulk ammo, though they do also sell a handful of firearm accessories and ammo in lower quantities. At the time of writing this, the website is more frequently trafficked than competitors like Ammo.com, leading me to suspect they have a larger customer base than most bulk ammo specialists.
I've had nothing but good experiences with Lucky Gunner and haven't heard anyone else saying the opposite. Order processing and shipping have also seemed incredibly fast. They typically offer the best prices anywhere I can find online. In other words: they have great deals.
At Lucky Gunner, you can filter by caliber and "Use Types" like training and self defense. Check out our full Lucky Gunner Review or go to Lucky Gunner now.
Palmetto State Armory (PSA)
Today Palmetto State Armory is perhaps most well-known for manufacturing incredibly affordable yet high-quality firearms, but they actually got their start online exclusively selling ammo.
While today they sell just about all firearms and related products, including those they manufacture themselves, they still offer some of the best deals on bulk ammo.
You can also frequently find bundles on ammo and magazines. Here's a screenshot of a deal I purchased from them for 1000 rounds of American Eagle 5.56mm brass cased ammo and ten 30-round PMAG magazines for just $349.99 in March 2019.
Check out PSA's ammo page and their daily deals page for a good chance of finding the best price on the ammo you're looking to purchase.
Ammo.com
Unlike some other firearm-related websites, Ammo.com specializes entirely on selling ammunition. My favorite thing about their website is that they outline the key information of each ammunition choice (see the picture below for an example). They also offer a variety of filters to help you quickly find the best option for what you're looking for.
The first time I made a purchase, they promptly called to clarify something, and I've never had any issues with them. They clearly list their available stock and seem to manage it efficiently, as I've never had any issues with canceled orders or delays.
Another great feature of Ammo.com is that they donate 1% of all orders, at no cost to the consumer, to a variety of firearm charities. You can choose which charity to support at check out.
Brownells
Brownells is one of the most popular websites for purchasing firearms and ammunition. Unlike Lucky Gunner and Ammo.com, they offer just about anything firearm related that you'd want to purchase, including firearms themselves.
In my experience, their prices have not been up to par with the other competitors. With that said, you may find it convenient to buy your ammo at the same place you buy your other gun and shooting-related items.
Can You Buy Ammo Online Where You Live?
Note: As always, the responsibility is on you to obey all federal, state, and local laws. If you have any questions whether a website can ship ammo to you, contact them directly for information.
Those not living in the United States are unfortunately out of luck. Within the States, there are also some areas and addresses that many companies cannot or will not ship to.
These typically include:
- Alaska
- Hawaii
- New York City
- Chicago
- Washington, D.C.
- Massachusetts
- U.S. Territories
- P.O. Boxes
- APO/FPO Addresses
Additionally, those living in California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York will have to jump through some additional hoops or may have to have their ammo shipped to a licensed location to pick up from.
Again, this is not an exhaustive list, so please do your own research.
